Following are the steps to install the IIS on Windows Server 2008. In Windows Server 2008, you install IIS by adding Web Server Role. Run Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Server Manager. Then click on Add Role. Click at Add Role and then select Web Server Role IIS. You will be asked to add other dependent roles. Click Yes to add other roles. If you planning to install Microsoft SQL Server Reporting services or SharePoint 2007 then add IIS 6 compatibility features. Bellow is screenshot of most optimal settings for web development purpose. Click next to confirmation screen and then click finish. This will start installing the IIS. Wait for completion and then verify you see successfully installed message.

We are using Dotnetnuke 4.5.5 with Microsoft SQL 2005 database. We have faced the blocking issues in past and I would like to share issue & resolution tips with everyone. Dotnetnuke has a very good logging mechanism to log error and events (audit trail). This can be easily configured per portal or globally for all portals. To edit go to Admin -> "Event Viewer" page. By default logging is enable for every event so system creates lots of log entries. Dotnetnuke runs a scheduler to delete these log entries (configurable). This Scheduler use a store procedure "PurgeEventLog" to delete old log entries based on configuration setting. This store procedure “PurgeEventLog” causes the SQL blocking issue and ultimately bring the website down.
