Google Chrome Browser Roadmap – Points from Google Chrome OS Webcast

The Google Chrome OS webcast started with Google Chrome browser. This was important as in the Google Chrome OS users will do everything using Google Chrome browser. Users will not able to install any software or application on the Google Chrome OS. Everything will be a URL. All data will be saved in either Google Cloud or others. Google cloud includes Google Apps, Google Docs, Gmail, Notes, Calendar etc.

Some of the main points:

1. JavaScript is runs much faster in Google Chrome browser vs latest IE which is IE8

2. Google Wave runs faster in Google Chrome browser

3. Google Chrome browser updated 20 times during last 6 months without user noticed it. Google Chrome browser updates itself automatically with user know about it.

4. Google Chrome browser for Max, Linux is coming

5. Chrome extension, automatically updated - Extensions for Google Chrome browser is coming. Extensions will also update itself without user know about it. Google philosophy will be you install it and then Google will keep it up-to-date.

6.  Html 5 & making web more powerful – Chrome will use more Html 5 and make web more powerful. Web application will works as good as desktop application. Google is working hard to identify every possible difference, security gap between web & desktop.

7. Google target is to allow desktop experience over web – desktop like games, other 3D applications, Web application to identify & use multi thread UCP

After installing IE8 I face following security warning. It was very annoying and looks like IE8 display this security warning dialog box for every unsecure link on the page. I finally found a way to change this behavior of the IE8 and would like to share with others.

I would also like to warn that this setting is for security purposes and turning it off may compromise the security depending on what you doing online. Specially on a banking & payment website you may not want to change this.

 

IE 8 Security Warning – Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely?

This webpage contains content that will not be delivered using a secure HTTPS connection, which could compromise the security of the entire webpage.

To change this behavior you need to do following:

1. Open IE8—>Tools—>Internet Options

2. Open Security Tab—>Select Internet Zone—>Click at “Custom Level…” button

3. In the Custom Level dialog box, Scroll down to Miscellaneous Section and change “Display Mixed Content” to Enable.

ISRO launch  a satellite mapping tool Bhuvan similar to Google earth on 12th August. As per ISRO Bhuvan will provide an easy way to view IRS images over Indian region and will show virtual earth in 3D space with specific emphasis on Indian region. Bhuvan will feature a zoom level of up to 10 meters while the Google Earth features a zoom level of up to 200 meters.

Bhuvan can be access at http://www.bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in/. On first time access you will ask to register for a free account. After registration you will be asked to download and install a small  plugin on your machine. Below is screen after register an account & login.

The new IE 8 will work on Windows XP, Windows Vista & Windows 2008. But you cannot install it on Windows 7 Beta. Microsoft planning to incorporate IE 8 into release candidate version of Windows 7.

I able to download it from from MSDN & also got the key. What I heard from others is:

It is faster then Vista. Specially the boot time & shutdown time

Look is much like Linux. This was surprising but Microsoft hired many Linux developer in past so it make sense. – Thanks John M for sharing this info.

As Microsoft extended the support for Windows XP, looks like they are trying to release Windows 7 before Windows XP support expires.
